Fellow Canadians,

The federal goverment is currently holding a public consultation on its International Policy Statement or IPS for short. It presents a comprehensive framework of Canada's role in the world. It is divided in 4 subjets: Diplomay, Defense, Development and Commerce. You can also find an overview titled: "A Role of Pride and Influence in the World".

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade is currently holding a public online consultation on the matters and wants to know what Canadians are thinking about the policy.

Please take a few minutes to read it and participate by filling out the survey. It is only 10 questions.

Welcome to Speaker's Corner,

This blog is about sharing ideas on human rights, extreme poverty, fair trade and global health around the world. You may ask yourself what is this or what is it about? I am not quite sure yet. I can tell what it's not about. It's not about preaching, evangelising, converting, guilt-tripping. I can tell what I hope what it will be: a place where people can exchange ideas on our world and what's going on in it

You might also ask yourself why ? I can tell you I have been reading about it, wearing a white band, buying fair trade coffee and watching Live 8. Then what more could I do about it ? Then this, I suppose. I could tell my friends about it and see what they were thinking.

My intention is simple: provide information about extreme poverty in the world and get people talking about it. I don't pretend to have any answers and I believe in people's ability to make up their own minds when presented with facts.

I hope people won't be shy about participating. All are welcome to express their opinion in a respectful manner.

Please feel free to post in French and in English. Don't hesitate if you need translation.
